Postwar classic in which a French actress in Hiroshima falls in love with a Japanese architect, based on a screenplay by Marguerite Dumas.
The actress and the architect share a traumatic wartime past: the woman had an affair with a German soldier during the war and was captured as a traitor; the young architect has seen the horrors of the atomic bomb.
Upon release, Resnais' feature debut was praised for its unconventional form; the director decided not to use flashbacks, but let the present and (wartime) past flow smoothly into one another. 4K restoration of this postwar classic, for which Marguerite Duras wrote the screenplay.
