Memoir of a Snail follows Grace Pudel, an introverted woman from Canberra, who has retreated further and further into her shell since the death of her father and separation from her twin brother Gilbert. As Grace tells her story to her favorite pet, the snail Sylvia, a beautiful, tragicomic universe filled with warmth, eccentric characters, melancholy and visual humor unfolds.

Grace and her brother are placed with foster families, each on a different side of the country. The tragedy in the lives of these lead characters, lovingly sculpted in clay, piles up particularly high. But as only Elliot can, he magically connects the misery with cheeky humor into a heartwarming, heartbreaking and hilarious film.
