Double Bill: Sensing bodies

Sensing Bodies is a high-tech audiovisual dance experience created by choreographers Jasper van Luijk and Ruben Chi.
About the performance
Pushing Waves
How can a person, cut off from the outside world, rediscover who they are? In Pushing Waves, choreographer Jasper van Luijk explores the world of isolation and imagination. Completely turned inward, a man drifts into his deepest thoughts. With full surrender, he tries to hold on to memories, while the world around him slowly crumbles. What do you hold on to when everything is silent?
Solo dancer Niek Wagenaar directly influences the musical composition that sound artist Tom van Wee creates in real-time with his movements and body. A sigh is transformed into a cool breeze, a scream becomes the static of a radio, and a bouncing beat turns into a stomping foot. In Pushing Waves, we let the body speak, even when it is deafeningly silent.
Transcendance
In Transcendance, choreographer Ruben Chi and artist Bob Sizoo challenge each other through dance and artificial intelligence. Dancer Ibrah Silas Jackson dances with a digitally optimized version of himself created by AI. A version that moves freely, beyond the physical and mental limitations of the human body. What unfolds is a play that questions the essence of natural growth and evolution. Transcendance invites reflection: how can we, through the lens of technology, come closer to our deepest self?
Good to know: The performance makes use of stroboscopic light.
